Eligibility Requirements for Veterans Homes

Eligibility criteria for admission to the Massachusetts Veterans Homes

To be eligible for the Massachusetts Veterans Homes, you must be a resident of Massachusetts at the time you apply. You must be medically and behaviorally suitable for placement in a long-term nursing care facility. Finally, you must meet the definition of a “veteran” under Massachusetts law.

For admission to the Massachusetts Veterans Homes, a “veteran” is defined as somebody who has served active duty in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Air Force of the United States for at least 90 consecutive days during wartime or at least 180 consecutive days during peacetime. Members of the National Guard on active duty for at least 90 consecutive days under Title 10 or 32 are also eligible. Veterans must have also received a last discharge under Honorable conditions. You can access the Massachusetts General Laws definition of a veteran by clicking here (M.G.L Chapter 4, Section 7, Clause 43).

You must present a copy of your military separation papers (DD-214) to our admissions office to determine eligibility for services provided by Massachusetts Veterans Homes.
