The Baker-Polito administration is working hard to improve your experience with state government. To that end, EEA has been asked to identify our critical constituent-facing services and to track our ongoing efforts to improve their delivery. By selecting key metrics and measuring performance against annual targets, our goal is to provide you with the resources you need as simply, efficiently, and transparently as possible.

Acres of land conserved

10,000 acres in 2021 with at least 50% of newly conserved land providing benefits for climate resiliency, mitigation, and/or environmental justice.  11,018 acres were conserved which is 110% of the target. Of newly conserved land, 80% had climate mitigation benefits, 43% had climate resiliency benefits, and out of all land or park projects, 20% of the total were located near an EJ population, with 82% of urban park projects near an EJ population (land projects for habitat and water supply are largely rural and not near people)

 

Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)

Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR)

Number of new businesses added to the MassGrown Exchange Platform. The Exchange is a business to business platform that assists farmers, fishers, food buyers & ag-related businesses to connect, exchange and find products and services.  This tool is for businesses looking to sell, donate or purchase MA crops, seafood, products and services. Increase the number of new businesses 10% for 2021 on the MassGrown Exchange.  In 2020 (August 10th-December), 222 businesses registered, 260 products & services listed, 6,622 notifications sent and 22,319 pageviews.  Added 148 businesses, for a total of 370 businesses, which equates to a 67% growth, with 226 products & services listed, 12,721 email notifications sent with 30,426 pageviews.

 

Department of Fish & Game (DFG)

Acres of active wildlife habitat management performed on state Wildlife Management Areas managed by DFG’s Division of Fisheries and Wildlife.  2,500 acres 2,768 acres

 

Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)

Percentage of Mass Trails Grants that are issued to Environmental Justice Municipalities That 50% of all Mass Trails Grants issued in CY21 are issued to EJ Municipalities.  This would be a 5% increase for grants issued to EJ specific communities from CY20. 55% of all Mass Trails Grants issued in 2021 were awarded to EJ communities.

 

Department of Energy Resources (DOER)

Number of municipalities provided with assistance to lower their cost of energy and emissions, provide clean energy infrastructure, and technical assistance to achieve their clean energy goals. 265 municipalities- at least 25% of which contain environmental justice populations. 265 municipalities were assisted; 94 of which contain EJ populations (35%)

 

Department of Public Utilities (DPU)

Number of gas and steam inspections conducted by the Pipeline Safety Division.  Increase the total number of gas and steam inspections conducted by the Pipeline Safety Division in 2020 by 10% in 2021.  For reference, 1,890 gas inspections and 100 steam inspections were conducted in 2020.

Completed 2,657 pipeline safety inspections which was a 27.6% increase over 2020.

Completed 142 steam inspections which was a 42% increase over 2020
