Massachusetts Workforce Development Board committees
The Massachusetts Workforce Development Board (MWDB) carries out its mission and strategies through its four Board committees. Board committees are comprised of MWDB Board members with support from subject matter experts and staff from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
Committee meetings are open to the public. Please visit the Open Meetings page for more information on upcoming committee meeting dates, times, and locations. Contact Cheryl Scott at (617) 626-7112 or email@example.com for inquiries.
Economic Opportunity Committee
The Economic Opportunity Committee capitalizes on the work of the Task Force for Persons Facing Chronically High Rates of Unemployment by identifying the policy and programmatic opportunities to improve employment outcomes for populations facing employment challenges (target populations) including the long-term unemployed, people with disabilities, veterans, African Americans, Latino Americans, and Native Americans.
Labor Market and Workforce Information (LMWI) Committee
The LMWI Committee uses labor market and workforce information to identify areas of discussion and policy development for consideration by the Board. Tasks include analyzing key metrics in workforce data including producing a quarterly LMWI data dashboard and conducting deeper analysis on key industries and occupations; improving the quality and capacity for the workforce system’s use of labor market and workforce information; and bringing subject matter experts, discussion topics and policy ideas to full Board meetings.
WIOA Oversight Committee
The WIOA Oversight Committee oversees efforts related to the adoption and implementation of WIOA as outlined in the Massachusetts WIOA Combined State Plan, including analyzing workforce system performance; fostering workforce system coordination and alignment; and acting on behalf of the full MWDB to approve WIOA policies, as needed.
The Youth Committee seeks to galvanize the broader workforce system to enhance youth employment and career readiness through efforts to foster partnerships between employers, youth service organizations, local workforce boards, and other stakeholder agencies. The committee focuses on catalyzing labor market demand for Opportunity Youth by transforming the perceptions and hiring practices of employers in the Bay State. The committee also pursues opportunities to enhance the provision of youth workforce services by developing policies, protocols, and resources to ensure quality and consistency across the Commonwealth.
