Notice Inviting Comments on Proposed Amendments to Supreme Judicial Court Rule 1:08, Form, Style, and Size of Papers Filed in All Courts

The Supreme Judicial Court Rules Committee solicits comments on proposed amendments no later than September 24, 2021.

The Supreme Judicial Court Rules Committee solicits comments on proposed amendments to S.J.C. Rule 1:08, Form, Style, and Size of Papers Filed in All Courts. The proposed amendments primarily involve removal of provisions in the existing rule that have become redundant, outdated, or unnecessary. (The title will be changed to “Case and filer information on papers filed in all courts”). The revisions would update the types of identifying information to be provided by attorneys and self-represented litigants in filings in all courts.  Most notably, paragraph 1(H) of the proposed rule allows attorneys and self-represented litigants, if they choose, to identify their personal pronouns in filings.

Comments should be submitted to Christine.burak@jud.state.ma.us no later than September 24, 2021. Comments received will be made available to the public.
