    A member of a city commission whose company subsidiary might enter into a contract with the city commission is advised on the restrictions under G.L. c. 268A, sections 17, 19, 20 and 23.

    A member of the General Court is provided general advice about how sections 4, 5 and 6 will apply to private business activities while a member of the General Court and upon leaving the General Court.

    An attorney in private practice who is a part-time consultant to a committee of the General Court is a special state employee for conflict of interest law purposes and may accept indigent criminal defendants as clients without violating §§ 4, 7 and 23 of the conflict of interest law.  He may also share office space with a member of the General Court who is a lawyer in private practice and accept indigent criminal defendants as long as there is no partnership arrangement involved between the lawyers

    A partnership for § 18 purposes of the conflict of interest law is not created when an attorney in private practice who also serves as the part-time town counsel becomes a shareholder in a corporation with two other attorneys in private practice for the purposes of owning the building where each shareholder attorney and one other attorney will engage in the private practice of law and there is no partnership or sharing of profits associated the the law practice of each of the attorneys. The town counsel remains subject to the restrictions of §§ 17, 18, 19 and 23 of the law.
