Section 8 Family Unification Program

The Family Unification Program (FUP) is a collaborative effort between the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) and the Department of Families and Children (DCF).

Program Guidelines and Information

The Family Unification program provides Section 8 tenant-based vouchers  to:

  1. Battered women and their children who have been displaced because of  the battering situation and have not secured permanent, standard, replacement housing;
  2. Families with children in placement who have substantially complied with all the DSS service plan tasks, but do not have permanent or adequate housing to which their children can be returned;
  3. Families for whom lack of adequate housing is the primary factor in the threat of or imminent placement of the family’s child, or children in out of home care, and
  4. Youth that are at least 18 years old and not more than 21 years old who left foster care at the age of 16 or older and who lack adequate housing.

How it works:

The FUP program provides Section 8 tenant-based vouchers to FUP eligible families referred by DCF. All conventional Section 8 HCVP program requirements apply.

Who is eligible:

All applicants must meet one of the four program criteria listed above and have an open DCF case at the time of referral, selection, and when the voucher is issued.

Application process:

DCF refers eligible clients to the Executive Office of Livable Communities (EOHLC) administering agency in its region when vouchers are available.

Grants:

The Family Unification Program serves at least 187 households throughout the Commonwealth.
