Chapter 144 of the Acts of 2014 govern the Council on the Underground Economy.
The law ensures that government agencies work together to prevent businesses from avoiding responsibilities. The CUE department, previously known as the Joint Task Force (JTF), has to-date investigated and collected millions of dollars in tax obligations, wage restitution, fines, and penalties from unlawful employers. The Council on the Underground Economy will continue Massachusetts’ work against unfair business practices within the Commonwealth. The law became effective March 24, 2015.
