Work Zone Billboard Contest

MassDOT holds an annual billboard design contest for Massachusetts college students. We look for creative and impactful designs that promote work zone safety and driver awareness when passing through active work zones.

National Work Zone Awareness Week Billboard Design Contest

for Massachusetts College Students

Attention all aspiring graphic designers! National Work Zone Awareness Week 2026 will take place on April 20st-24th. The theme for NWZAW 2026 is "Safe Actions Save Lives." It highlights the responsibility of drivers to make safe choices when traveling through work zones. By following traffic laws, slowing down, and staying attentive, drivers help protect both themselves and people working in work zones.

MassDOT is hosting our fourth NWZAW Billboard Public Service Announcement contest. We're looking for creative and impactful designs that promote work zone safety and encourage drivers to be aware and cautious when passing through active construction and maintenance projects.

The top 3 designs will be displayed on a series of digital billboards along the highways in Massachusetts throughout the 2026 construction season. This year's winning designs will be awarded a scholarship generously provided by Construction Industries of Massachusetts (CIM) and the Massachusetts Aggregate and Asphalt Pavement Association (MAAPA).

The contest ends on April 17th and the winning designs will be announced on May 5th during the 2026 MassDOT Transportation Innovation Conference.
