The Land Court Department has seven authorized judicial positions and statewide jurisdiction over the registration of title to real property, and foreclosure and redemption of real estate tax liens.  The Court shares jurisdiction over matters arising out of decisions by local planning boards and zoning boards of appeal, and over most property matters.  The Court also has superintendence authority over the registered land offices in each Registry of Deeds.  Based in Boston, the Land Court may schedule sessions in other locations within the Commonwealth.

SJC Committee Seeks Attorney Response

As part of the ongoing program to evaluate and enhance judicial performance, the Supreme Judicial Court is seeking response from attorneys who have practiced before the Land Court in the past two years. The SJC asks that any attorney who receives an email inviting them to log in and complete a questionnaire should take the time to complete it, as the more responses received, the more helpful the judicial evaluations will be. The SJC's evaluation program is the best opportunity for attorneys to offer their opinions of the members of the judiciary in an anonymous, confidential process.  The evaluations period ends on Dec. 19, 2014. To learn more, or to get a copy of the questionnaire, click here or send an email to Mona.Hochberg@sjc.state.ma.us.
