DCR REOPENS BEACHES, POOLS, AND CAMPGROUNDS
No damage reported from Hurricane Earl
The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has reopened all of its ocean beaches and several Boston-area pools through Monday, Sept. 6, and has reopened campgrounds for the season. The agency has reported no damage to its facilities from Hurricane Earl.
The agency also has lifted the parking ban along Winthrop Shore Drive.
“DCR thanks everyone very much for their patience and understanding over the last few days as we took extra precautionary measures to ensure public safety,” said DCR Commissioner Richard K. Sullivan Jr. “Thankfully, the storm was mild and we are able to reopen our recreational facilities for the remainder of the weekend.”
Because of the threat of unusually strong currents and high surf as a result of the storm, ocean swimmers are urged to exercise caution in the water. Stay in shallow water, and follow any orders or directions from the lifeguards.
DCR pools that will be open today through Monday, Sept. 6, are:
Boston: Cass Memorial Swimming Pool (Roxbury)
Cambridge: McCrehan Memorial Swimming Pool
Chelsea: Vietnam Veterans Memorial Swimming Pool
Somerville: Latta Brothers Memorial Swimming Pool
