This training will prepare Certified Peer Specialists and Recovery Coaches, age 50+, to use their existing experience, skills and training to work with older adults living with behavioral health challenges. Training will include an understanding of mental health and co-occurring physical issues as they relate to aging. Topics covered include: the aging process, suicide, wellness, substance use, dementia, physical illness, mental health challenges, aging in place, and community resources. Participants will increase their level of expertise while gaining specialized techniques that support older adults. Lived experience of mental health challenges, trauma, and/or substance use, and the willingness to share that experience is required.
