The Commission denied the appeal of a Taunton Fire Department (TFD) Lieutenant who claimed he was wrongly denied the opportunity to take the April 2025 Statewide Fire Captain Examination, concluding that the state’s Human Resources Division (HRD) correctly determined that he had failed to meet the filing deadline.
The Commission rescinded the two-tour suspension of duty and reprimands of two Boston fire lieutenants after finding that the actions they took in response to a drunken off-duty firefighter engaging in racist and obnoxious behavior were reasonable and consistent with Boston Fire Department guidelines.
The Commission denied the Petitioner’s request for investigation as it appears that she is seeking a reclassification and has failed to file a formal request for a reclassification with her appointing authority.
Although it is an unfortunate outcome for the Appellant, the Commission dismissed his appeal as he was unable to show that he is an aggrieved person based on his failure to check his spam email account and open a notification telling him that his name appeared on a certification for Somerville firefighter.
