The Commission upheld HRD’s decision that the Appellant was ineligible to take the September 2023 readministered Statewide Police Sergeant Promotional Exam because he had not been employed as a Cambridge police officer at least three years prior to November 2022.

Having determined that a Peabody Police Sergeant was incorrectly awarded 2 preference points reserved for those with 25 years of service as a police officer, the Commission ordered the eligible list to be corrected and encouraged HRD to review the potential applicability of a related Appeals Court decision.
