The Commission allowed, in part, an examination appeal brought by a candidate who took the 2025 Statewide Fire Captain promotional examination, having determined he submitted sufficient documentation to establish that he completed the necessary academic course of study to earn an associate’s degree.

The Commission allowed the request of the Waltham Police Department to revive the revoked eligible list for Police Sergeant after concluding that doing so is consistent with the effective maintenance of the merit system.

Request for investigation denied. There is no allegation that the decision to extend an eligible list was the result of personal or political bias

Since the Appellant has also filed a discrimination complaint with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the Civil Service Commission is dismissing this appeal until MCAD has issued a final decision on the Appellant’s complaint.

The Commission denied the Appellant’s reclassification appeal as he was unable to show that he performed the higher duties of Carpenter II more than 50% of the time.

The Commission affirmed the decision of the Boston Police Department to bypass a candidate for police officer based on his poor driving record, including two separate operating under the influence charges.
