The parties have reported that the respondent, the State Board of Retirement, voted in July to approve Mr. Brothers’ request for classification in Group 2. See G.L. c. 32, § 3(2)(g). With the petitioner’s consent, the respondent moves to dismiss the appeal as moot. SeeCity of Lynn v. Murrell, 489 Mass. 579, 582 (2022) (explaining a matter is moot when a tribunal “can order no further effective relief” (quotation omitted)); Sullivan v. Langtry, 233 Mass. 543, 546 (1919) (declaring a case is moot when “[i]t can have no practical result”). In view of the foregoing, the motion to dismiss is ALLOWED and the appeal is DISMISSED.
