Equifax Data Breach

Equifax, a credit reporting agency, reported a massive data breach on September 7, 2017. Learn more about how to protect yourself from financial fraud and identity theft.

Starting in September 2017, Equifax announced that the personal information of nearly 147 million people, including nearly 3 million Massachusetts residents, may have been compromised. Attorney General Healey sued Equifax over the data breach. On April 13, 2020, AG Healey announced that her Office settled with Equifax for a record $18 million penalty.
