Overview   of Burlington and Billerica - resurfacing and related work on Route 3A

A Live Virtual Public Informational Meeting will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Resurfacing and Related Work on Route 3A project in Burlington and Billerica, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Resurfacing and Related Work on Route 3A project. All views and comments submitted in response to the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of a pavement maintenance project to resurface a 3.2-mile portion of the Route 3A corridor and associated intersections. The existing cross section of 3A within the project limits varies in width and is marked as one lane in each direction. For most of the corridor within the project, the existing roadway is 40 feet wide with single wide lanes averaging 18 feet in width. This cross section creates confusion for drivers operate the corridor as either a two-lane road or a four-lane road, depending on the driver.

In addition to resurfacing the project, another goal is to improve the roadway cross section and lane use. The selected concept includes new bicycle lanes within the roadway, improved sidewalk throughout the corridor, improved and optimized bus stops, and upgraded most pedestrian curb ramps.
