Overview of Norton - Improvements at Route 123, N. Worcester St and S. Worcester St
A Live Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Intersection Improvements at West Main Street (Route 123), North Worcester Street and South Worcester Street project in Norton, MA.
Purpose:
The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Intersection Improvements at West Main Street (Route 123), North Worcester Street and South Worcester Street project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
Proposal:
The proposed project consists of improvements to traffic operation and safety for all users at the intersection of Route 123 (West Main Street) at North Worcester Street and South Worcester Street. Proposed improvements include the minor realignment of North and South Worcester Streets with Route 123, the installation of a new fully actuated traffic signal system with all necessary conduit, signal equipment, vehicle detection, and related signing and pavement markings. Other proposed improvements include roadway widening with areas of full depth construction and pavement milling and overlay, sidewalk construction, bicycle accommodations and new signs and pavement markings.
A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Town of Norton and MassDOT are responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s and the Town’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
