Overview
Notice is hereby given that, pursuant to 105 CMR 100.445, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health will conduct a virtual hearing to permit comment on the Determination of Need (DoN) Application #DFCI-25090516-RS filed on November 19, 2025, by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc. (Applicant), located at 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA for a Substantial Change in Service. The Applicant has filed this Application in connection with the proposed construction of an approximately 4,500 square-foot proton therapy center, servicing adult and pediatric patients, to be located at 35 Binney Street, Boston, Massachusetts (Proposed Project), including (i) an upright single-gantry proton therapy system with a dedicated accelerator which includes a computed tomography (CT) scanner for daily treatment image-guidance; (ii) a separate vertical CT for simulation and treatment planning; and (iii) clinical and administrative spaces. The maximum capital expenditure for the Proposed Project is estimated to be $50,500,633.
The Department will conduct a hearing virtually by conference call in order to promote public access. The virtual hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Such hearing shall not be adjudicatory but shall be in the nature of a public forum for the presentation of any comments that may be relevant for consideration by the Department regarding the Proposed Project. Persons wishing to make their views known may speak during the virtual hearing or may submit written comments to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Determination of Need Program, 67 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752 or via email to DPH.DON@State.MA.US. Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026. All written comments submitted to the Department may be posted on the Department’s website and released in response to a request for public records.
