Overview   of Notice of virtual public hearing concerning Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc.

Notice is hereby given that, pursuant to 105 CMR 100.445, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health will conduct a virtual hearing to permit comment on the Determination of Need (DoN) Application #DFCI-23040915-HE filed on January 8th, 2024, by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Inc. (Applicant), located at 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA for a Substantial Capital Expenditure and Substantial Change in Service. The Applicant has filed this Application in connection with the proposed acquisition of site by lease and construction, fit-out, and equipping of an approximately 688,100 square-foot inpatient hospital Facility to be located at 1 Joslin Place, Boston, Massachusetts 02215 and to include 300 adult inpatient beds and the addition of two magnetic resonance imaging (“MRI”) machines, two computerized tomography (“CT”) machines, one positron emission tomography machine (“PETCT”) (collectively, the “Inpatient Imaging Equipment”), and two CT simulator machines, and three linear accelerators (“LINACs”) (the “New Radiation Oncology Equipment”) (collectively, the “Proposed Project”). Of the inpatient beds, 30 would be transferred from the Applicant’s current bed complement at 75 Francis Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02115 and 270 would represent new beds on the Applicant’s license dedicated to inpatient cancer care. The Proposed Project will also include 20 observation beds and a tunnel under and a bridge over Brookline Avenue connecting the Facility to the Applicant’s Dana Building at 440 Brookline Avenue. The maximum capital expenditure for the Proposed Project is estimated to be $1,675,700,000.

The Department will conduct a hearing virtually by conference call in order to promote public access. The virtual hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Such hearing shall not be adjudicatory but shall be in the nature of a public forum for the presentation of any comments that may be relevant for consideration by the Department regarding the Proposed Project. Persons wishing to make their views known may speak during the virtual hearing or may submit written comments to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Determination of Need Program, 67 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752 or via email to DPH.DON@State.MA.US. Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024. All written comments submitted to the Department may be posted on the Department’s website and released in response to a request for public records.
