Overview of Reasonable Accommodation and Modification Requests in Housing Workshop (9/18/24)
If you can't equally enjoy your housing because of a disability-related obstacle, what do you do?
Join us for an interactive virtual workshop on the reasonable accommodation (RA) and modification (RM) request process in housing. This workshop provides information and examples to help you understand the process from start to finish and tips to avoid common pitfalls.
This workshop is designed for residents with disabilities (or their advocates), whether they live in rented accommodation or are owners in a housing/condo association.
We will discuss:
- What are reasonable accommodation and modification requests and what is their purpose?
- What scenarios are RA/RM requests suited for?
- How to draft an RA/RM request
- What medical information is necessary to disclose?
- What are a housing provider’s obligations during this process?
- What makes a request reasonable and when can a request legally be denied?
- Tips for informal problem resolution and the formal complaint process
MOD does not discriminate on the basis of disability and is committed to providing accessible programs, meetings, and events. To request reasonable modification to participate in this virtual workshop, please contact MOD General Counsel Julia O'Leary at julia.e.oleary@mass.gov or (857) 214-1081. Requests made after September 4, 2024 will be considered but may not be possible to fill.
