Request Free Inservice or Educational Training

MCDHH provides a range of free (online or in-person) professional and educational in-services/presentations to other organizations, agencies, and businesses seeking to improve their effectiveness in interacting with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

These trainings cover a variety of topics:

  • Deafness and Hearing Loss - an introductory training covering legal obligations, demographics, communication methodologies, reasonable accommodations, communication suggestions and a brief introduction to assistive technology.
  • Communication Access in the Workplace - similar to the above but specifically geared toward creating a communication accessible working environment for employees and/or customers who are deaf or have a hearing loss. Includes a discussion of "reasonable accommodation" and examples of how this may be provided.
  • Communication Access in Medical Settings - similar to the above but geared toward doctors' offices, hospitals, visiting nurse associations and medical facilities. Includes a discussion of site-specific accommodations and communication technology.
  • Communication Access in Emergencies - a presentation tailored to Police, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Service providers and other first responders. Includes a discussion on effective first response to catastrophic events where Deaf or hard of hearing citizens are impacted.
  • Providing Communication Accessible Programs and Services - specifically geared towards state and public agencies, with a focus on providing effective reasonable accommodations and communication access solutions.
  • Assistive Technology- specifically geared toward communication access and environmental alert technologies utilized by persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing, and those wishing to communicate with them. Includes visuals and, if requested, actual demonstration where possible of this equipment.
  • Accommodation Assessment - this is not a training per se; it is a service wherein we will go to a program or entity (sorry, no individual home visits) and make suggestions as to what can be done to enhance communication access and environmental alerts so that Deaf and hard of hearing staff and customers, service recipients or patients are aware of what is being communicated and what is happening in the immediate physical surroundings.

Please choose one of the above categories from the drop down menu " Requested Topic" under " Training Event Information". If what you are looking for is not listed, please do elaborate in the " Purpose of Event" section and we will be happy to work with you to tailor a presentation to your needs, if applicable.

Please note that we require a minimum of 2 - 3 weeks' advance notice in order to schedule ASL interpreters/CART providers for our presenters.
