About the Personal and Home Care Aide State Training

The Personal and Home Care Aide State Training (PHCAST), available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Haitian Creole, is a free, self-paced, online training for people who want to work as a Homemaker and Personal Care Homemaker.

Mandarin, Cantonese and Russian versions of the online training are coming soon.

Homemakers help with shopping, cooking, laundry, and tasks around the home like cleaning, doing dishes, and vacuuming.

Personal Care Homemakers perform all the tasks of a Homemaker in addition to other assistance that may include help with bathing, dressing, hair care, and getting around.

The video-based training reviews key concepts and in-depth knowledge of related topics and responsibilities of home care aides. The Homemaker course is divided into ten modules. Successful graduates may then go on to the Personal Care Homemaker course, which is six modules.

At the end of each module, you will complete an assessment. You must score 80% or higher on each assessment before you can continue to the next. You can review the information in each module as many times as you want.

The Homemaker course should take approximately 37 hours to complete, and the Personal Care Homemaker course should take approximately 10 hours. Participants can work at their own pace.

Upon successful completion of all the assessments, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and can search for a new job in the direct care workforce through the PHCAST Job Board, which features jobs at EOEA affiliated agencies by town, zip code, and proximity to public transit and languages.
