Inspector licenses are valid for one year.

What you need

An inspector can be licensed to perform non-commercial, commercial, 7D and/or motorcycle inspections. 7D and motorcycle training is for safety only inspections, while non-commercial and commercial training includes safety, emissions testing and additional material that meets the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements for the inspection of commercial motor vehicles.

To get a vehicle inspector license, you must have a valid driver’s license for the class of vehicle you will be inspecting with a state assigned license number.

  1. You must complete, sign and submit Massachusetts Vehicle Check Inspector License application before requesting training. This can be done online at mass.gov/rmv.
  2. Pay applicable fee.
  3. Contact Opus Inspection Technologies, Inc. to schedule training.

Note: Out-of-state applicants are required to submit a copy of the front and back of their current their drivers license.

Renewal

Your license must be renewed every year, and you must attend a re-certification training every 2 years.
