Permit/License/ID Related Transactions

If you need to complete an in-person permit (non-CDL), license, or ID transaction, you are required to make an appointment online. Select the Make an Appointment button at top of page.

When you make an appointment/reservation, you will receive an email when an appointment becomes available. The email will contain a personalized link to schedule your transaction. The link expires within 24 hours so check your email often.

The RMV provides appointments at (most) Service Center Locations during any available time Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. dedicated to customers over the age of 65 and people with disabilities. An appointment is required to visit to conduct License or ID related transactions. Note that Registration-related transactions can be performed at an RMV Service Center without an appointment. Examples of Registration transactions include registering a vehicle; transferring vehicle to surviving spouse; amending a registration; reinstating a registration; and confirming identity for a registration renewal.

Customers who are at least 65 years of age or have a disability can call the RMV’s dedicated appointment line at 857-368-8005 to schedule a license or ID appointment. The RMV’s Senior License Renewal Appointment Line warns customers that they will not be served if do not meet the above qualifications. Transactions that CAN be performed at an RMV Service Center without an appointment:

• Reinstate My Registration
• Transfer Vehicle to a Surviving Spouse
• Amend My Registration
• Confirm Identity for a Registration Renewal

The RMV provides appointments at (most) Service Center Locations during any available time Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. dedicated to customers over the age of 65 and people with disabilities. Customers are encouraged to continue to conduct RMV registration transactions by working through their insurance agents and auto dealers who are able to complete bulk transactions in-person through Business 2 Business (B2B) services.
 

  • Chicopee RMV is strictly a B2B location and walk-ins cannot be conducted.
  • Natick RMV is a limited service location and cannot issue new plates, but can transfer your current plate to a newly acquired vehicle.

AAA Members

If you are a AAA member, an appointment is required for all RMV transactions at all AAA locations.

AAA members can process the following RMV-related transactions at AAA locations throughout Massachusetts:

• Renew your Passenger (class D) and/or Motorcycle (class M) driver's license

• Replace your driver's license

• Renew your Massachusetts Identification (Mass ID) card

• Replace your Mass ID

• Start your Passenger (class D) or Motorcycle (class M) learner's permit application

• Renew most vehicle registrations

• Replace most vehicle registrations

• Transfer your registration (limited)

• Replace most vehicle titles
