Apply for an electrical/systems business license

Who may apply

Applications are limited to business entities who have or are contracted with a MA licensed Master or Systems Contractor as Licensee of Record (LOR) and registered with the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s corporations division.

Applications are only open to business entities that have:

• A MA licensed Master or Systems Contractor as their Licensee of Record (LOR)
• Are registered with the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s corporation's division.

Required documents

For all applicants:

• A copy of the Articles of Incorporation/Organization as filed with the Secretary of the Commonwealth (SOC) or as filed in the originating state (for out-of-state entities).  The SOC filing must show the LOR with their assigned title and state that as an electrical business, is organized to engage in electrical contracting including systems work or that as a systems business, is limited to engage in systems contracting only.
• A copy of the Master or Systems Contractor license card
• Licensee’s letter of intent and compliance. (This letter is composed by the licensee to state the intent of the application, affirm understanding of their responsibilities and naming all businesses for which they are already listed as an LOR.)

Required if a corporation:

• A copy of the Bylaws or if applicable, agreement naming the LOR and outlining their responsibilitiesA listing of all officers of the corporation ( including the LOR with an officer title) attested to by the Clerk/or other officiating officer of the corporation.

Required if a limited liability corporation (LLC):

• A copy of the Operating Agreement naming the LOR and outlining their responsibilities
• A List of the Managers (including the LOR with the title of Manager)
• Limited Liability Certificate of Insurance

Required if a limited liability partnership:

• Partnership Agreement form
• Limited Liability Certificate of Insurance

Additional documents (if applicable):

• A copy of the Foreign Certificate issued by the SOC (for out-of-state businesses)
• Copies of any amendments filed to comply with the Board’s requirements for changes to the SOC filing
• A copy of local DBA (Doing Business As) certificate
