What you need   for Apply for reciprocity as an out-of-state Real Estate Brokers or Salespersons License

Only brokers and salespersons who have passed their examination in the following states may apply for reciprocity in Massachusetts (254 CMR 2.00): 

  • Connecticut
  • Rhode Island
  • West Virginia
  • Nebraska
  • Iowa
  • Tennessee
  • Mississippi
  • Colorado
  • Georgia
  • Pennsylvania
  • New Mexico
  • Salespersons and brokers from Oklahoma who have been licensed for 2 years

 
Applicants who have passed an examination in a state other than those listed above and wish to apply must fill out and submit this educational waiver to the board for approval to then apply to take the appropriate examination in Massachusetts.

Requirements for out-of-state applicants from the States listed above

To complete an application for reciprocal licensure, you will need the following:

  • A certified letter of Good Standing issued by the reciprocating state which includes:
    • Issue Date
    • Expiration Date
    • How license was issued
    • Any Discipline against license
    • Status of license 
  • A notarized Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Form must be completed and signed by the applicant
  • A recent, color photograph of the applicant (passport-style)
  • In addition to the above the Broker applicant must provide A $5,000 Surety Bond in the name of the applicant.
    • This bond must be issued before submitting the application.
  • If applicable, an official letter or certificate of standing for each professional license held by the applicant in any other jurisdiction. Please note that the letter or certificate must have been issued within ninety (90) days of the date of submission of this application.
  • If the owner(s) or authorized representative(s) has pending or past disciplinary action against their professional license in any location, either inside or outside of the United States, a document detailing that action must be included with the application. Certified copies of any disciplinary documents or official records of the disciplinary action are required as well.
  • If the owner(s) or authorized representative(s) has any prior felony or misdemeanor convictions against them in any location, either inside or outside of the United States, a document detailing the convictions must be included.  Copies of certified court records related to the conviction must also be included.

The application fee and license fee will be charged at the same time when application is submitted, and payment can be made by credit/debit card, or bank account.

The fee is prorated based on applicant's date of birth.

Please note that there is a separate convenience fee charged by DOL’s vendor for certain online payment transactions.

Create an ePLACE account (view detailed instructions for creating an account) or log in to ePLACE.

  • Select "Manage Licenses, Permits and Certificates"

  • Select "File an Application"

  • Select "Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons " in the list of boards

  • Select the correct application

  • Select "Continue" to begin the application

  1. Application review and processing

    It takes a minimum of 10 business days for the board to review and approve a completed real estate reciprocal application. 

    Please note that the board only reviews complete applications. If you do not submit all required information or supporting documents, your application will be considered incomplete and closed as withdrawn if materials are not submitted to the board in the time requested. 

  2. Receiving your license

    Once approved, your license number will appear on your ePLACE account immediately.  
     
    Your license information will also be added to the Check a License database within 24-48 hours after your license is issued. 
     
    A license card will be mailed to the address provided on your application.
