THIS IS AN INDIVIDUAL APPLICATION - NOT FOR A GROUP OR BUSINESS.

Documents required with your online application:

  • Signed Certificate of Character by your local Chief of Police (Please print and have your local Chief of Police sign it, then upload it to your online application).
  • If applicant a disabled Military Veteran, please attach a certified U.S. Veteran’s Administration Form to this application.
  • If applicant is visually impaired, please attach a Certification of Blindness to this application.
  • Fee: $62 per regular application/renewal. $2 for special applications/renewals (Military Veterans and Visually Impaired). 

Other requirements, depending on the type of anticipated goods to be sold: 

Criminal Record Check:
A criminal record check may be required by your local Police in applying for a license. Check with the local Police Department where you live. If you do require a record check, please fill out the attached form and mail to The Criminal History Systems Board, 200 Arlington Street, Suite 2200, Chelsea, MA 02150.

Food Sales:
Any food selling requires a Health Certificate obtained from the local Board of Health, where you intend to sell your goods. Also a Sales Tax Registration Number must be obtained from the Department of Revenue located at the Saltonstall Building, 100 Cambridge St., Boston, MA.

Fish or Shellfish Sales:
In addition to the Hawkers and Peddlers License, a Retail Detailers Permit as required by Chapter 130 of Mass General Laws, must be obtained from the Division of Marine Fisheries located at the Saltonstall Building, Room 1901, 100 Cambridge Street, Boston, MA.

Local Rules and Regulations:
All licenses issued are subject to local rules and regulations. Applicants are advised to check with the local Police Departments concerning local rules, regulations and other restrictions prior to filing your application. Fees are not refundable once the license has been issued.

Any person under the age of 16 must obtain a work permit from the school district prior to licensing.

The license is good for 1 year.

RENEWALS: You will need to go through the full application process every year.

 

 

Fees for Hawker and Peddler Application

Fee:

  • $62 per regular application/renewal.
  • $2 for special applications/renewals (Military Veterans and Visually Impaired).

How to apply Hawker and Peddler Application

Only money orders or checks (personal, business or bank check) are accepted. Make checks payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Cash is not accepted.

Please call ahead to make an appointment. 

Paper Application will need to be printed, filled out completely and brought to the Division of Standards, all of the requirements will need to accompany the application, including payment. IN-PERSON APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE SAME DAY REVIEW AND RENEWAL/APPROVAL.
