To sell ice cream from a truck, you must have a valid permit. This includes anyone who sells, displays, or offers to sell ice cream or other prepackaged food, as well as anyone who drives or operates the truck.
Permits are issued by the local police chief, a town or city board, or another authorized office. To get a permit, you must fill out and submit an application. All applications include a state and national criminal background check. By law, permits cannot be given to anyone who is a registered sex offender as defined by G.L. c. 6, § 178C.
