LASER Device Services: registration, disposal, transfer, and temporary use

All Class 3B and Class 4 LASER devices used in Massachusetts must be registered with the Division of Radiation Control (DRC). As of September 9, 2025, LASER device services will be managed through the Environmental Health eLicensing Portal.

What you need

  • A designated LASER Safety Officer (LSO) must provide a laser safety officer training certificate
  • For entertainment use, a copy of your valid FDA and/or FAA variance is required

Services available

You may use the eLicensing system to:

  • Register a LASER device for medical, dental, veterinary, academic, industrial, manufacturing, or entertainment use (laser light show)
  • Report the disposal or transfer of a LASER device that has been sold, transferred, disposed of, or rendered inoperable
  • Register a temporary LASER device for short-term or special use
