To fly on behalf of MassDOT and/or the MBTA, vendors must participate in the MassDOT Aeronautics Vendor Program. A pre-requisite is a current contract with MassDOT and/or the MBTA.

What you need   for Participating in the MassDOT Aeronautics Vendor Program

MassDOT Aeronautics aims to ensure highest quality and performance standards for UAS Flight Service Providers interested in operating small unmanned aerial systems (UAS, or "drones") for MassDOT. All vendors seeking to fly UAS or drones on behalf of MassDOT and/or the MBTA must be admitted into the Vendor Program by MassDOT Aeronautics. Reach out to MassDOT Aeronautics to inquire about how to become a participant in the Vendor Program. Once a vendor has been accepted, they can nominate individual pilots to operate on their behalf.

First, you must contact MassDOT Aeronautics to start the application process. Once contacted, MassDOT Aeronautics will respond within 14 days, and coordinate a follow-up meeting. To get started, please submit the following information through the form under “How to apply”:

  • Vendor or company name
  • Primary point of contact and contact information
  • Street address for vendor or company
  • Any initial comments you want to provide to the Drone Operations Program

  1. Step 1

    The MassDOT Aeronautics Drone Operations Program will review your application request. Next, a team member will contact you via email or phone to gather additional information. We will request more information about your program and the pilots in your program, including standard operating procedures, flight experience, and training. Expect a response within two weeks of submission.

  2. Step 2

    We will request information about your program to review your policies and procedures.

  3. Step 3

    • At this point in the process, you can nominate pilots, and we will request additional information about their flight experience.
    • This information will be used to decide on pilot participation.
