What is an accessibility consultation?

The Accessibility Center for Consulting Education and Support Services (ACCESS) team offers consultations to help your team along on its accessibility journey. We help you include accessibility in the services and experiences that you build, buy, and maintain. Consultations normally start with a 30-minute meeting and focus on making sure you have a path forward. We help with things like:

  • How to begin your journey toward accessibility
  • Using Salesforce for your project and what to do for accessibility
  • Including accessibility requirements in project planning
  • What the accessibility strategic plan means for your agency
  • Meet about accessibility for artificial intelligence projects
  • Including accessibility during procurement and other phases of contract life cycles
  • Accessible multimedia (including video production)
  • Code review methods that help you find accessibility issues with web pages and applications
  • Accessibility testing tools you can buy or install for free
  • Accessible document creation practices

A consultation isn't a full accessibility audit

You can ask us to do a basic accessibility test (for a document, webpage, multimedia, etc.) However, consultations are not the same as accessibility testing and remediation. You may need to follow-up sessions for training, testing, learning how to remediate code, understanding how to use a tool we recommend, etc. You can submit another support request to schedule these meetings.

How to request

A successful consultation begins with a detailed request. Here's what we'll ask you to provide when you submit your request:

  • Your agency and secretariat
  • What type of consultation you're looking for (e.g. strategic planning, project planning, establishes processes that lead to accessible outcomes (procurement, development, etc.), a high-level discussion about how to begin your accessibility journey
  • Any files, links, code snippets you want us to review for the consultation
  • Any deadlines you have, such as code releases
  • If you want us to look at code or
  • What the project's purpose is or what you want to achieve
  • Any specific questions or challenges you want to make sure we address

Submit your request through this online form.

We may contact you with questions before your consultation.

  • establishing processes (procurement, development) that lead to accessible outcomes
