If you changed the name of your business or “doing business as” (DBA) you need to notify OCABR.

What you need

Contractors must notify the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) if they changed their business name or DBA (also referred to as a fictitious name). To update your business name or DBA, you'll need:

  • Your name
  • Your HIC registration number
  • Your new DBA or business name
    • For DBA:
      • A digital copy of the DBA certified from your local city or town clerk's office is required
      • Failure to submit this copy will cause a denial or delay of your registration.
    • For new business name:
      • You must first submit the new name of your business with the Secretary of the Commonwealth before updating it with OCABR
      • Failure to complete this step will cause a denial of your registration
  • Permanent address
  • Once you have all of this information, go to the MA Contractor Hub to update your business name or DBA.
