Adult/Adolescent SANE services

Find Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) services for patients 12 years and older

Adult/Adolescent SANE Program

Certified MA SANEs are specially-trained by the MA Department of Public Health (MDPH) to perform trauma-informed medical-forensic examinations for patients 12 years of age and older. They respond in collaboration with a community rape crisis advocate to 51 MDPH-designated SANE sites across the Commonwealth when paged by hospital staff that a patient, who has been sexually assaulted, has presented. The SANE Program ensures that patients receive a medical-forensic exam and forensic evidence collection, if desired, along with medications that can help to prevent assault-related pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
