Attorney General's Office Record Categories

Find categories of Attorney General's Office (AGO) records that may be public records and available to disclosure upon request.

Generally speaking, AGO “public records” may include certain records from the following:

  • Closed civil and criminal litigation files
  • Closed civil and criminal investigation files

Complaints

The AGO receives various types of complaints from the public.  Some examples of these complaints, or portions of them, that may be “public records” include the following:

  • Civil Rights complaints
  • Consumer complaints
  • Energy & Telecommunications complaints
  • Healthcare/Health Insurance complaints
  • Insurance/Investment complaints
  • Labor/Wage/Workplace complaints
  • Medicaid Fraud complaints
  • Non-Profit Organizations/Public Charities complaints
  • Open Meeting Law complaints

 

AGO-specific records

Other AGO-specific records, or portions of them, which may be “public records” include:

  • Data/Security Breach notices (G.L. c. 93H, § 3)
  • Notices/Reports sent to the AGO, such as:
    • Class Action Fairness Act (CAFA) notices
    • Drinking Establishment (OUI) notices
    • Presentment Claim forms
    • State Lottery Commission reports
  • Open Meeting Law Enforcement files (closed)   
  • Public Records Requests (for AGO records)
  • Public Records Referrals for Enforcement from the Supervisor of Records (closed)
  • Usury notices
