CHEI Community-Led Qualitative Projects
In spring 2023, the Community Health Equity Initiative (CHEI) partnered with Tufts Interdisciplinary Evaluation Research (TIER) to work with communities across the state to collect and use data to change conditions that get in the way of health.
The TIER Community Evaluator (CE) model brings together program participants, residents, service providers, community leaders, and researchers to share expertise and collaborate on shaping research and evaluation. TIER recruits, trains, and supports cohorts of Community Evaluators to design and carry out qualitative data collection projects in their communities. By focusing on topics and experiences challenging to understand through survey data, this initiative supplements and expands upon results of the Community Health Equity Survey 2023.
CHEI Community Evaluators are currently analyzing data collected through interviews and focus groups within their communities to understand the experiences and health-related social needs of:
- Youth aging out of the foster care system
- Immigrant parents with young children who have experienced barriers to childcare or employment
- Immigrants who have experienced language barriers to services
- Adults over age 65
- Parents under age 25 who have experienced housing instability
- Survivors of intimate partner violence
After qualitative data analysis is complete, results, presentations, and identified next steps will be available on mass.gov/CHEI.
