Information on the Massachusetts Section 83C offshore wind energy procurement

On May 2, 2023, The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) in coordination with Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light Company d/b/a Unitil (Unitil), Massachusetts Electric Company and Nantucket Electric Company, each d/b/a National Grid (National Grid), NSTAR Electric Company d/b/a Eversource Energy (Eversource), (collectively, Distribution Companies), jointly requested the Department of Public Utilities (Department) approve a request for proposals (RFP) to solicit and enter into cost-effective Long-Term Contracts for Offshore Wind Energy Generation and associated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), pursuant to Section 83C of Chapter 169 of the Acts of 2008, as amended by Section 60-61 of Chapter 179 of the Acts of 2022. The Department docketed this petition as D.P.U. 23-42.

On May 10, 2023, the Department issued a Notice requesting written comments regarding the proposed timetable and method for the solicitation on or before the close of business (5:00 p.m.) on Monday, May 22, 2023. Reply comments will be due to the Department no later than the close of business on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
