Community Clean Energy Resiliency Initiative (CCERI) Round 3 Grant Awards

CCERI Round 3 was announced on 9/22/2016 and is part of the Commonwealth's $40M Community Clean Energy Resiliency Initiative.
DOER CCERI Round 3 is split into 3 programs: Resiliency Implementation at Hospitals, Feasibility Studies for State Owned Medical Facilities, and Resiliency Tool Development.

Resiliency Implementation at Hospitals

In 2017, DOER awarded nine hospital resiliency applications representing over $9.5 million in grant funding for the third round of the Community Clean Energy Resiliency Initiative. These applications represented communities across the Commonwealth, with hospitals in the greater Boston area, Central Massachusetts and the Berkshires. Three of these applications include energy storage systems as part of their resilient propositions while all of them incorporate advanced control and operation of the hospitals’ combined heat and power plants such that they can island and operate through an outage. Details of the awarded applicants, a brief summary of the projects they are pursuing, and the grant are in the document below.

Feasibility Studies for State Owned Medical Facilities

In 2016, the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources contracted with Arup to conduct an Energy Resilience Assessment for 12 state-owned care facilities, all of which house difficult-to-relocate residents who live on-site 24/7. For these sites, an extended loss of utility service could render the facility non-operational and require costly and potentially risky patient or client relocations. The goal of the study was to identify energy resiliency gaps and study potential clean energy technologies that could improve energy resilience and increase the duration or effectiveness of on-site power sources, such that relocation of residents would not be required.
