Policy regarding apprenticeship and correspondence courses

Correspondence courses

Correspondence courses will be accepted and proof that the apprentice has advanced to the next module will be submitted to The Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS) twice per year. An apprentice will be allowed to repeat a module only once. If an apprentice repeats a module, they will automatically be extended for another six months. In no event shall the term of the apprenticeship be extended more than two six-month periods over the term of the apprenticeship except on a case-by-case basis.

Sponsors are responsible for monitoring the progress of all correspondence courses and Compliance Officers must verify the information when visiting with the sponsor that the apprentice is progressing in his/her studies. All periodic and final testing will be done in person by the apprentice as monitored by an approved proctor system.

If the apprentice is not progressing in his/her studies, that apprentice will be suspended/canceled from the program.

The timetable for correspondence courses is 150 hours per year from date apprenticeship begins to the following year. Please note that the timetable differs from classes that are held in a classroom setting since the apprentice begins his studies when they begin their apprenticeship.

DAS will review schooling responses once a year to insure that the apprentice is progressing in their studies.

PLEASE NOTE THAT LICENSING BOARDS DO NOT USUALLY ACCEPT CORRESPONDENCE COURSES, THEREFORE IT IS THE APPRENTICE/SPONSOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THE COURSES ARE ACCEPTED BY THE SPECIFIC LICENSING BOARD PRIOR TO TAKING THE COURSE
