Having skilled workers is critical to the growth of any business, and having the skills to begin a new career is crucial for worker success. The Apprentice Training Program is the framework that an individual receives company-paid, on-the-job training (OJT). The OJT is supervised by a fully-trained journeyworker (mentor) in the same occupation who follows a written work process, specific to the occupation. A progression of wages is paid and a contract is required.
DAS does not conduct training or place apprentices in jobs. It monitors all apprentice training programs across Massachusetts to ensure that apprentices are working in safe working environments, are paid correctly and are receiving both on-the job training as well as related education classes.
