Services Provided
DDS Deaf Services may:
- Consult with Service Coordinators regarding communication access and culturally appropriate engagement with Deaf individuals
- Participate in or provide consultation before and during Individual Service Plan (ISP) meetings and other key service planning discussions
- Provide consultation during intake and eligibility processes
- Support transition planning, including for individuals approaching age 22
- Conduct on-site consultations at homes, workplaces, or community settings
- Provide Deaf cultural awareness and sensitivity training
- Facilitate cross-cultural mediation, when appropriate
- Consult with DDS offices, programs, and units statewide
- Share information about additional resources and supports
Assessments
Through a contracted partnership with Work, Inc., DDS Deaf Services offers:
- Environmental assessments
- Communication assessments, including evaluation of visual communication access and communication environments
Assessment findings are used to inform service planning and support recommendations.
Program Approach
DDS Deaf Services recognizes the importance of accessible communication and cultural awareness in service delivery. The program works collaboratively with individuals, families, providers, and DDS staff to support effective communication and reduce barriers within DDS services.
