Free Language Assistance - EA Family Shelter

If you do not speak English well and need help applying for or understanding the Emergency Assistance (EA) Family Shelter program, HLC will provide free translation services either at one of the field offices or over the remote access line.

People who are Applying

In person

When you arrive at one of the 10 field offices, there will be posters on the wall printed in 34 languages with information about getting an interpreter.  You can point to the language you speak and an over-the-phone interpreter will be provided to you free of charge.

By phone

If you apply over the phone, tell the person who answers what language you speak and an over-the-phone interpreter will be provided to you free of charge.

Current EA Program Participants

If you have already been determined eligible and placed in a shelter, and you need an interpreter, tell your shelter provider that you speak a language other than English. A free interpreter will be provided to you over-the-phone. They can help you with tasks such as understanding a document you received from the shelter or understanding something else about the program.
