MEMA hosted an informational webinar on November 7, 2023 1:00-3:00PM to provide an overview of the grant programs and application requirements, in support of the FY 2023 Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) and FY 2023 Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) funding opportunities.

To further demonstrate the importance of building codes, new this year in FY 2023, FEMA is setting aside an additional amount of funding dedicated to building codes FEMA is referring to as a plus-up. MEMA hosted an informational webinar on November 30, 2023 1:00-2:00PM to provide an overview of the FEMA Building Code Plus-Up category and provide a live demo of a sample subapplication development in FEMA GO.

The MEMA website will be updated regularly with dates and registration information. These workshops will be recorded and made available for review. Live participants will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer period during the workshop. 

As a reminder, MEMA is currently accepting Statements of Interest for projects and C&CB/scoping/planning grants from communities on a rolling basis unless noted otherwise in our state NOFOs. Links to the statement of interest forms can be found on MEMA’s BRIC & FMA grant programs page.

HMA grant information webinars for FY 2021 BRIC, FY 2021 and FEMA-4496-DR HMGP were held Tuesday, August 31 @ 2:00 PM and Thursday, September 9 @ 10:00 AM. These virtual sessions provided an overview of the individual grant programs, available funding, relevant application process, and deadlines.

In preparation for the FFY21 funding cycle of the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program, MEMA offered several workshops to support communities in navigating the FEMA hazard mitigation assistance program eligibility and application requirements. FEMA HMA Guidance and Eligibility | Friday – April 23, 2021

FEMA BRIC eligibility is based on the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance Guidance (2015), and supporting addendums. MEMA is offering this one-hour HMA workshop to review the guidance and related regulations, identify common eligibility pitfalls and limitations, and provide insight into developing a project application that successfully navigates the requirements.

FEMA Benefit-Cost Analysis (BCA) | Wednesday – April 28, 2021

The FEMA BCA is a quantitative tool used be FEMA to evaluate the net impact of a proposed project by weighing the measurable mitigation improvements of a project (benefits, or avoided losses) against the drawbacks (represented by the cost). MEMA is offering this one-hour BCA workshop as a basic primer on the BCA process (including software), required inputs (including benefit data), and available resources. The workshop will also include tips and insights for presenting your project as positively and comprehensively as possible within the BCA.

Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Guidance, Eligibility & Opportunities | Tuesday – May 18, 2021

The Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Grant Program is an annual nationally-competitive program intended to fund cost-effective measures to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of flood damage to buildings, manufactured homes, and other structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). MEMA is offering this one-hour FMA workshop to review the guidance and related regulations, identify examples and best practices, and provide insight into developing successful applications to the FMA program.

FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance & Nature Based Solutions | Thursday – May 20, 2021

The new FEMA Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Grant Program identifies “Nature-Based Solutions” as a clear program category and funding priority.  MEMA is offering this one-hour HMA Nature Based Solutions workshop to identify and review examples of nature-based solutions developed to address community natural hazard vulnerabilities. The workshop will also review related program guidance, eligibility, and application development.

FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance for Culvert Enhancement Projects | Monday – May 24, 2021

Improving the mitigation capacities of culverts and stream crossings are common HMA project applications. MEMA is offering this one-hour HMA Culvert Enhancement Projects workshop to review the guidance and eligibility requirements to fund culvert enhancements with HMA grants.  The workshop will include example projects, discuss best practices for application development, and provide resources for developing application components (including culvert specific BCA insight).

MEMA is offering this one-hour HMA Generator Projects workshop to review the guidance and eligibility requirements to fund generators with HMA grants.  The workshop will include example projects, discuss best practices for application development, and provide resources for developing application components (including generator specific BCA insight).

2021 Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) & Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA)

FEMA is hosting Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) & Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Program Webinars to provide technical information, best practices, tools and resources regarding these grant programs. There will also be a review of the fiscal year 2021 Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) for BRIC and FMA.

The webinars are designed for leaders in states, local communities, tribes and territories, as well as private sector entities, private non-profit organizations, and individuals interested in learning more about the BRIC and FMA grant programs and strategies for how to apply for them.

FEMA will coordinate with the regional offices to host "office hours" for states, tribes and territories to answer questions about subapplications for the Fiscal year 2021 Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities and Flood Mitigation Assistance grants.

Registration is Now Required for the Ongoing 2021 Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities and Flood Mitigation Assistance Programs’ Webinar Series. Given the popularity of these webinars, participants are now being asked to individually register for every event they would like to attend. Registration is capped at 1,000 for each event. Learn about the topics and dates and register. All sessions will be recorded and, once available, posted on FEMA.gov.

FEMA Training on Top 10 Mistakes When Purchasing Under a FEMA Award

The FEMA's Grant Programs Directorate is introducing an online 1-hour training to provide guidance to FEMA award recipients and sub-recipients on the most frequent procurement noncompliance issues as reported by the OIG and provides available resources to help avoid these mistakes.

Target Audience:

FEMA employees and FEMA award recipients and subrecipients, which include; state, territorial, tribal, and local government personnel, nonprofit organization staff, eligible private entities, and other non-Federal entities.
