MassDEP Waterways Practitioners Work Group

A stakeholder work group convened to assist the Waterways Program in improving communication, draft technical guidance, and improve review timelines.

In 2024, MassDEP convened the Waterways Practitioners Work Group to assist the Waterways Program in identifying means to:

  • Improve communication between the Department and the regulated community;
  • Develop specific technical guidance regarding the Department’s interpretation and implementation of selected provisions of the regulations (310 CMR 9.00), and
  • Identify potential actions to address repeat causes for extended application review timelines.

To date the group’s efforts have focused on identifying specific technical areas where improved communication  between applicants and the Department.  Improved communication can clarify certain jurisdictional matters related to non-water dependent use projects leading to more predictable licensing outcomes and timeframes.
