The Massachusetts State Treasurer's Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE), the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA), and the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) are here to help families save for their children's future with SNAP into BabySteps.

Every child who is enrolled in SNAP as well as the BabySteps Savings Plan before their first birthday will be eligible to receive a monthly deposit of $10 to their BabySteps account for a period of one year. This benefit will be added to the $50 seed deposit when the BabySteps account is opened, making the total value of deposits $170. Families can enroll in the monthly deposits up to 18 month after their child’s birth or adoption.

I’d like to share some exciting news about additional benefits for the BabySteps Savings Plan. The Office of Economic Empowerment, MEFA, and the Department of Transitional Assistance are now providing $10 monthly deposits for one year to BabySteps families enrolled in SNAP. This is in addition to the $50 seed when signing up for a BabySteps account.

With SNAP into BabySteps, families can receive a total of $170 into their child’s 529 U.Fund account to jumpstart saving for future education, vocational training, and apprenticeship costs!

Starting September 1st, every Massachusetts family continues to have until their child’s first birthday or adoption anniversary to sign up for BabySteps to receive the initial $50 deposit, but they’ll have an additional 6 months after their first birthday to enroll in the monthly deposits using a simple online form.
