About the Fund
The Sport Fish Restoration Program (SFR) funds fish and wildlife agencies within the states. This allows for management of fishery projects, boating access, and aquatic education.
SFR is based on a user-pay, user-benefit program. Taxes on fishing equipment, small engine fuels, and import duties are sent to SFR and the Boating Trust Fund. SFR then distributes the money to territories based on land and paid license holders.
SFR helps make programs like the Sportfish Angler Data Collection Team, the Cod Conservation Zone, and the Clean Vessel Act possible.
