Overview of the project

The Stroke Community Awareness Project empowers communities in Massachusetts to spread stroke awareness through on-the-ground Collaborations. Led by health care organizations, each Collaboration receives funding to develop and execute local stroke awareness and education activities that will reach members of their communities.

What is the focus of the Collaborations’ stroke education?
The goal is for each Collaboration is to educate the public on stroke prevention and how to recognize the signs of stroke, often by teaching F.A.S.T. messaging. Using this focus as a base, the Collaborations are encouraged to deliver this information in creative ways that will resonate with their community.

What types of organizations are in each Collaboration?
Collaborations may consist of hospitals, emergency medical services, post-acute providers, community health centers, and other community-based organizations, such as local boards of health and faith-based organizations.

Who does the project reach?
Each Collaboration's activities are designed to reach people within their communities, with a special emphasis on reaching Black non-Hispanic, Asian non-Hispanic, and Hispanic populations, as well as those who are at highest risk for stroke and communities traditional public awareness activities may not reach.
