Supreme Judicial Court, Office of Education and Public Programs - Research and Exhibit Curator Internship

The application period will remain open until the position is filled.

Supreme Judicial Court Mission Statement

The mission of the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) is to promote the rule of law and foster public trust by leading an independent judiciary that assures every person equal access to the fair, timely, and impartial resolution of disputes in courts managed with efficiency and professionalism. The SJC is the highest appellate court in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and is comprised of a Chief Justice and six Associate Justices.

Research and Exhibit Internship Description

The SJC is undertaking to reimagine the historical and educational exhibits on display in the John Adams Courthouse. The goal of the project is to offer visitors a more comprehensive understanding of the Commonwealth’s legal history.

The SJC is offering an internship opportunity, during the summer and fall of 2026, for a graduate student majoring in history and/or public history to gain hands-on experience assisting on the project. The internship offers an invaluable learning and resume-building opportunity, which will include collaborating with the SJC’s Director of Education and Public Programs to conduct comprehensive research on selected topics (e.g., the Salem Witch Trials, freedom suits, fugitive slave cases, and the Molasses Flood cases), identify key moments and themes to be explored, and draft text and suggest related images for exhibit panels. At the conclusion of the internship, the student will write a brief reflection paper about the internship experience and discuss their thoughts and ideas during an evaluation session. The internship is unpaid, although some students may be able to obtain funding through their schools or other funding sources.

The SJC is an equal opportunity employer and encourages persons from all backgrounds to apply.
