In collaboration with Citizens, the Office of Economic Empowerment co-developed the Massachusetts Child Care Startup Grant (originally called the "Massachusetts Childcare Startup Grant"), a grant and educational training program that funded individuals in Lynn and Springfield interested in opening a family child care business. 

Eligibility 

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must have met the following qualifications:

• Reside in Lynn or Springfield, Massachusetts 
• Display an interest in and ability to open a family child care business 
• Provide proof of completion of the Massachusetts Early Education and Care Strong Start Potential Provider Training for Family Child Care

Funding 

Grantees received up to $4,500 in funding toward business expenses related to starting a home child care program. Before receiving financial assistance, grantees were required to join a Family Childcare (FCC) Network or System in their respective communities and participate in educational webinars on starting a child care business in Massachusetts. 

Funding for the grant was distributed in two phases. The first portion of funds in the amount of $2,250 was provided after grantees completed some professional development training, while the second distribution of $2,250 was provided after grantees were licensed. To receive full funding, grantees must have been licensed within 12 months of acceptance to the program.

Evaluation of the Massachusetts Child Care Startup Grant
