Marguerite, a native of upstate New York, graduated Syracuse University (summa cum laude) in 1998, where she was awarded the Remembrance Scholarship in her senior year. She then moved to Massachusetts to attend Boston College Law School and has stayed here practicing law ever since. While at law school she participated in the Juvenile Rights Advocacy Project during her second year, where her work in special education law began; representing juvenile girls in advocating for their special education needs. After graduating law school in 2001, she first worked as an Associate Attorney at Gay, Gay & Field and was able to continue working in the field of special education law representing both families and the Taunton Public Schools, while also specializing in municipal law, generally, with a focus on zoning and affordable housing matters. Marguerite started Mitchell Law Offices in 2007 and worked as a solo practitioner specializing in both school side and parent side matters in special education law and continuing her work in municipal law.
From 2012 through April 2021, she served as the Legal Counsel for Pupil and Personnel for the Taunton Public Schools, where she oversaw the District’s Personnel Department and also handled all student-based legal matters for the District. As a former member of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team, Marguerite gained a deep understanding of, and practical experience with, operational procedures, administrative and student needs, and educational initiatives of an urban school district.
Marguerite also dedicates time to give back to her community, as she has been a member of her local Zoning Board of Appeals for over ten years, is a Town Meeting member, and also sits on the Human Rights Committee for a DDS-funded adult service agency. She has also held positions on her children’s PTOs and is a member of their School Councils.
